New to the Manchester Pride festival calendar of events is Pride Games, a programme of cultural and leisure events with a distinctly sporty flavour.

Building upon the success of both the Commonwealth Games of 2002 and Manchester Pride, LGBT sports men and women compete in tournaments across Manchester. The emphasis here is on participation and inclusion, so many of the events were geared to ensure that anyone could give it a try and not feel out of place. Having said that, many of the final tournament rounds and matches were of an exceptionally high standard.

Sports featured include swimming, water polo, badminton, men's and women's football, running, softball and volleyball.

Participants in the Pride Games also have the opportunity to take part in activities at the start of the Manchester Pride festivities, which include cultural and leisure events.

2006 saw a range of taster events and competitions and 2007 now looks set to be even bigger and better - keep an eye out for fundraising and events to take part in!
