As the name suggests, Manchester Frontrunners is a running group in Manchester, mainly made up of gay men and women, but open to all.
The group aims to provide opportunities in sport for all and therefore welcomes runners of all abilities. Whether it's to run, race-walk, improve fitness or train for competition and long-distance running events, this is a thriving community group that will welcome you with open arms (although we are told that women will be especially welcome!). Tackling homophobia in sport is a very important part of this group's objectives and ethos.
Manchester Frontrunners meet several times a week for various training sessions and take part in organising a monthly 5k run in Alexandra Park under UK Ahtletics Rules. There are also additional sporting and social events throughout the year.
Membership is just £12 annually which also includes automatic membership of the North of England Athletics Association, newsletters, sports advice and coaching, a vest, access to the running library and inclusion in all the events, although occasional extra charges for some events may apply.
In addition to close links with other Manchester LGBT sporting groups and the newly formed annual Pride Games event, the group is also closely linked with London Frontrunners and Dublin Frontrunners - with regular exchange trips organised. Manchester Frontrunners is part of International Frontrunners, a network of gay and lesbian clubs across Europe, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
