First National LGBT Sports Summit
Friday, 7th March 08
On June 14, organisers of Pride Games, this year’s winner of the Pink Paper’s LGBT Sports Event of the Year, will be hosting a National Sports Summit. The Summit aims to bring together sports organisers from around the UK to look at the future of LGBT involvement in sport. The summit is being supported by Ramada Jarvis Piccadilly and Manchester City Council.
Director of Pride Sports, Trevor Burchick says: “We want to get people together to talk about LGBT sports development across the UK. There’s some great stuff happening all over the place, but it would be great to join it all up and find ways of supporting each other.” The Summit will also offer limited places to representatives from mainstream sports organisations wanting to develop their work with LGBTs. “Primarily, it’s an event for our community to get together and discuss how we can network more effectively, and how we can best support each other in the future” says Lou Englefield, fellow Director of Pride Sports “But we will also be sharing perspectives on homophobia in sport and how we can influence the national sports agenda.” The event will be held on a Saturday, and a range of accommodation options will be available for participants, including hosting by local LGBT sports people. The summit is a free event and lunch will be provided for all delegates. There will also be a drinks reception in Manchester’s Gay Village for delegates on the Saturday evening. Places are limited to 80 delegates at this inaugural event, so allocation will be on a first come, first served basis. For more information about the summit or to book a place, email
