k.d.lang announces UK tour dates

Watershed

Wednesday, 19 March 2008

For those of you lucky enough to have caught k.d. lang In Session for BBC Four live from St Luke's in London earlier this Spring, you’ll know the pull of this songstress. Well the chance to catch her live in the UK is here this summer as k.d. lang announces a series of European tour dates in July and August as part of her continuing worldwide Watershed Tour. The tour follows sold out concerts in Glasgow and London earlier this year. Of January’s London concert, the Daily Telegraph declared, ‘lang’s voice remains a wonder to behold. Many pass themselves off as “proper” singers, but lang is one of the few who can really, really sing. Glorious.’ The Times echoed, ‘With the pop world suddenly in thrall to a bevy of young, female torch singers, here is a star who really knows the stylistic and emotional ropes of the genre.’ This latest UK leg comprises eight dates, beginning in Oxford on July 23rd and ending in Brighton on August 3rd. Included is a headline performance at the Cambridge Folk Festival on August 2.

k.d.’s latest album is the acclaimed bestseller, Watershed, which was released by Nonesuch Records in January and saw k.d. achieve some of the best chart success of her 25-year career, including her highest ever debut on the US Billboard chart at no.8. The album comprises 11 new songs written and produced by k.d., including the first single ‘I Dream Of Spring’ and the forthcoming single ‘Coming Home’. It is the first album of newly written material from the four-time Grammy winner since 2000's Invincible Summer, and her first studio album since 2004's Canadian songbook, Hymns Of The 49th Parallel. It is also the first self-produced collection of her career. The Sunday Times Magazine called it a ‘masterpiece’, and in a four-star review Q proclaimed it ‘The best thing she’s done since 1992’s Ingénue.’ If you ever needed proof that live music is where the true soul is, this is it. Let k.d. entertain you.
