review

The end of the month long queer up north arts festival culminated with the ‘night of light’ mini-festival in Canal Street in Sackville park.

As the Fairy queen wound her way though the gay village, boys and girls came out of the many bars to welcome the lantern parade. Parts of the canal were illuminated by lit up bagels (yes – bagels), all in the name of art. According to the organisers: Legend says if you hide your face she will pass you by, but if you look at her she may whisk you away to Faeryland (ok, well, Sackville park).

After completing a lap of the busy gay village the parade finished up in the park and was greeted by a few numbers from the Lesbian and Gay Chorus. The night ended with a firework display from the adjacent buildings and huge Queer Up North wall of fire.
