review
Always an emotional event, the candlelit vigil offered the opportunity to remember people we've lost to Aids, those living with HIV and to reflect on the developments of the last 25 years, since we first heard about the virus.
The Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus sang and a number of people shared personal experiences before Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley, from Coronation Street) spoke and led the candle-lighting before a minutes silence.
Every 90 minutes, somebody in the UK is diagnosed with HIV and there are now more than 50,000 people here living with the virus. More people were diagnosed with HIV in 2005 than in any year since the epidemic began, showing we still have a long way to go to beat the virus.
