Queer Poland : The Siege of Le Madame...
review Le Madame was the hub of Warsaw’s queer cultural scene. It brought together queer events, green politics, experimental performance and clubbing: it was everything the Kaczynskis hate. On March 31st 2006, on the order of Warsaw City Council, it was stormed by the police: hundreds of supporters barricaded themselves in for five days as police laid siege. Kash Szustow, former artistic director of Le Madame, told the story of this unique place and introduced a screening of Le Ma! – a documentary record of the siege - and Leon Dziemaszkiewicz, Le Madame’s most celebrated theatre artist whose work combines drag, ritual, dance and cabaret, performed live. loved it?
