Manchester Pride 2008 : Candlelit Vigil...
review
It may have been party, party, party for three days straight, but Sackville Gardens was filled with Pride this evening as thousands squeezed their way in to take part in what is undoubtedly the heart of the Pride weekend.
With some fantastic live performance, speeches and readings and with a minute's silence to remember those who we've lost to HIV and Aids - the evening was a very fitting close to the pride festivities. It's a really touching experience to become part of a sea of flickering candles as fireworks explode above, and a rare opportunity for reflection on what can, for some, otherwise seem an endlessly hedonistic weekend.
It's estimated that HIV and Aids charities will receive around £100,000 raised during Manchester Pride 2008.

about Manchester Pride
|
Manchester Pride has been around for a number of years, previously in the guise of Mardi Gras, GayFest and the Ab Fab Weekend. In recent years, the organisation has grown significantly, focussed its aims and provided a network for community groups, the City Council and the gay businesses - no mean feat!
