review

"A sophisticated evening of champagne and canapes," Jamie said. "Dress up smart, start with your Gucci shoes and work up". What was I letting myself in for?

Firstly when I go out I like to let my hair down and definately did not fancy being all prim-and-proper sipping Champagne and chatting to lots of old fuddy duddies. As for canapés, no chance. You never know what the ingredients are, fish, snails, food poisoning and they never fill you up. Knowing Jamie well, and the work he does for Stonewall, I had to check it out but stopped at the Joogleberry Playhouse for a bite to eat first to be on the safe side.

...we quickly reduced the
spectacular banquet to just
a few lettuce leaves

We walked up the limelit stairs to Kruze's Lizard Lounge and were greeted by management and handed our first glass of champagne. You couldn't help but immediately notice the absolutely gorgeous spread Kruze had put on for the night. I daren't eat it, not because I was hung up about the ingredients but just because the food just looked so amazing and I didn't want to spoil the look. Kruze had definately pulled out all the stops with the food and we quickly reduced the spectacular banquet to just a few lettuce leaves, leaving me feeling satisfyingly bloated but regreting going for a meal beforehand.

As for my first
glass of Champagne...
It was bottomless

The atmostphere was so much more relaxed than I expected and I really felt part of something special. Everyone was so friendly making it the best preclub party i've ever been too. As for my first glass of Champagne - it was bottomless. No matter how fast I drunk, Kruze's eagle-eyed staff made sure you always had a full glass, which ment I rapidly deteriated into a drunken stuper. Thankfully the Champagne had the same effect on everyone. Kruzes' management and owners were excellent hosts and humoured all my drunken gobbledygook as they came round to top up my glass.

As the night went on more people were up to mischievious shannigans, sliding down the banister, drinking from the floor and flashing their bums at my camera. Looking at Jamie's shirt which became more and more undone throughout the night I realised something: A room full of people (especially Jamie's lot), with unlimited bubbly, despite all efforts of dressing up and acting posh, was never going to be sophisticated.

Well done Kruze and Jamie for a truly amazing night!!

about Stonewall

While politics and community issues may seem like a distraction to partying the night away, lunching with friends or shopping for the latest designer gear, it is, nevertheless, imperative that everyone in the UK – gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or straight, makes time for an organisation such as Stonewall.
